Animal Farm, was the first accomplishment in George Orwell's famous career. The problem with politically timed satires is that it’s much easier to accept them after the political establishment has passed. Today, Animal Farm is a classic; yet at the time it was written Orwell could barely get it published. The book reflects the events leading up to the Russian Revolution and the Stalin era in the Soviet Union. The Soviet Union, had become a harsh dictatorship built on a wide range of personality and enforced by a strict power, so he believed. In a letter to a friend, Yvonne Davet, Orwell described Animal Farm as his novel "contre Stalin". Time magazine chose the book as one of the 100 best English-language novels (1923 to 2005). It is also featured at number 31 on the Modern Library List of Best 20th-Century Novels. The Novel portrays corrupt leadership as a flaw in revolution, rather than the act of revolution itself.
